Configuration: Windows XP Internet Explorer 6.0
Hai
I use Mandriva here, and Mandriva uses the Grub boot loader by default (although I prefer and use lilo here). I am not sure if Ubuntu is set up the same way, but if you open /boot/grub/menu.lst in a text editor (as root), you can change the line default x to point to your Vista menu item. As an example, if the line now reads default 0, (where the first menu item is Ubuntu, and the second item is Vista in your menu.lst file, you should change the line to read default 1 so Grub boots the Vista item by default. Note: Grub counts the menu items in the menu.lst file starting from item zero (0).

Thanks so much Hai!
This worked great for me. I installed Vista and then Ubuntu 8.10 and of course, the newly installed GRUB defaulted to loading Ubuntu first. I opened up the text file by.. Opening the Terminal (Applications > Accessories > Terminal) then from there I opened the Nautilus (type "sudo nautilus") from there get to the menu text file (type "/boot/grub/" and then double click on the file "menu.lst" from there you'll have to read through the document a bit and find the part that says "default 0" and change the "0" to number of the OS you want to default to. (You may have to recall how they're listed on the GRUB and count to where it's located, starting with the number 0 rather than 1) and that IT! |
pal you just need to install the software "EasyBCD 1.7.2".i think its a free ware.
