HP Pavilion DV6000 Wireless Connection

Hello,
The wireless connection icon and broadcom 802.11 wireless adapter went missing and cannot connect to internet. Read all the problems with this laptop. Running Windows XP. How do I try downloaded and reinstalling the wireless adapter from HP's website if I can't connect to the internet from the laptop? Excuse me for being computer illiterate!

Configuration: Windows XP Internet Explorer 7.0
