Lost sound and icon / windows XP

Hello,
I have lost sound, as well as my sound icon on my toolbar line. I have tried everything I know to do and used the troubleshooting section as well to no avail. Thank you in advance.
I have a HP Pavillion dv 5000z Lap top AMD Turion 64 L 32
512 MB Microsoft windows XP 80 GB Double Layer 128 MB 200 Mem with Hypermemoy
54g 802.1 b/g 125 HSM speedbooster

Configuration: Windows XP
Firefox 3.0.10

Hi, have you tried uninstalling your sound drivers, then reinstalling them?

I don't have time to find your specific model, but that link is to the dv5000 series notebook PC's. Look on the bottom of yours and find the model number. (and it is not dv5000z, that is just the series)
