Raid Controller Cache

Hello,



Does the cache size of a raid controller card supercede the cache of the the individual drivers ? for example... lets say you are running raid 1 with 2 identical HDs both with 8MB cache.. and the raid controller card has 256MB of cache on it... does that mean that the raid controller is doing all the "cache" work.... and the cache on the HDs is not even being used and the effective specs of your virtual drive is 256MB cache instead of 8 MB ?

I don't know the definative answer to your question. However, my guess would be that both the on card and HD caches work. CPUs have two caches to improve performance.

That said, you are getting way too obsessed with storage performance. What is it you are trying to accomplish? Is this homework by chance?
