Hello,
i have been using the free trial for Eset's "Nod32" antivirus. i was surprised at how a few irritating ads got thru, but was disappointed that a rootkit win 32 trojan horse got thru, into myoperati memory.
now i can't run system restore - it stalls.
i'm open to advice - trying norton 360 freeed trial scan now to see if it catches virus.
i'd like opinions on norton vs.nod32
i'm new to site, and am impressed by thoughtful, useful discussions
Configuration: Windows XP Internet Explorer 8.0

Hello,

Try doing this. First disable your system restore to make sure that your trojan is not copied in to the system restore folder. Then download a good (trial) AV software like norton IS2009, norton 360 v2 or Kaspersky IS2009 or what ever you think has the latest up-to-date version of the latest threts in the database. Update the software to the latest updates and run a full system scan. If your trojan will not be removed by the AV software on its own, it would give instructions on how to manually remove it, of most done in Windows safe mode. When you get the name of the trojan then you can follow the instructons. Once all is clean run a updated full system scan to be sure and then if all is good re-enable system restore so you are safe to roll back. If all fails backup your data and programmes to an external hard drive and do a complete format of the PC and flush every thing out. Then the first thing to do is to install a reliable AV software and scan the backed up data in the External hard drive before exporting them. Last but not least try to avoid websites that are doggy like porno sites and you know where I am going??? Good luck |
