Hello,
the last time I opened itunes it proposed me to update my ipod to a newer version, that's what I did.. THE BIGGEST MISTAKE EVER.. now when i connect my ipod to itunes it says that i need to download itunes 7.6 or higher.. so i downloaded the 8th version but when i tried to install it, it says that it doesn't work on my windows version, (windows xp professional...but a copy) NOW I CAN'T ACCESS OR ADD ANYTHING TO MY IPOD with itunes and it's a 80GB! HELP ME PLEASE ANYBODY!!.... I'm looking into forums but I don't find anything that can help me.. and the worse is that I think that it erased my previous itune library content! I got the .itl when i go to my music/itunes/previous itunes libraries but when i open it it's empty, i don't want to transfer everything back to my new library (anyway i can't connect my ipod)

Therefore
1.is this a version of itunes that will solve my problem of accessing my ipod and that will work on my computer
2.how the hell am i suppose to get back my content in my previous library

(sorry for my english, I'm french)

Configuration: Windows XP
Firefox 3.0.10

Okay don't worry, you can get your media files back using an iPod-to-PC transfer tool like CopyTrans:

1. Download CopyTrans from here: http://www.copytrans.net
2. Install and run the program
3. Plug your iPod and select all your iPod files
4. Click on 'Backup to iTunes' or 'Backup to folder'

You are all set!

Besides, I recommend you to change for a free iTunes alternative such as CopyTrans Manager (http://www.copytrans.net/m).

Hey Cath,
If you have some how erased all your music files from your iTunes folder, then it might be wise to "restore" your computer to an earlyer date before you do anything else. Your "System Restore should restore any files that were there before you upgraded.
Hope this helps.

Okay, this same exact thing happened to me.
Firstly; when you plug your iPod into your computer, does it show up under deivces?
Secondly; look on the page, if it says that the "manage songs and videos by yourself" thing is checked, uncheck it.
Thirdly; click apply.
It worked for me, hopefully it works for you! *fingers crossed*

Hi guys. I'm new to the Ipod/Iphone (have only had an iphone for a month now) and I had this problem also. However, I do work on computers and I do some programming so I went at this from a simple programming perspective. I had 169 songs, of which only 130 would transfer from my Itunes on my computer to my Iphone. What solved my problem was this: I went to Itunes on my computer and opened up my song list. There is a column to the right side of each song. In this column, some songs have a ! by them. If you will right click on that song, then click "get info" it will take you to the folder where Itunes has stored your songs after you downloaded them. You need to link the song with where it is in the saved song list. For example, one of my songs I downloaded was "Baby Come Back". Itunes named this song's file name as Ambrosia - Baby Come Back. Actually Player sings this song, and I had renamed this file to read Player - Baby Come Back. So I had to link this song from Itunes that read Baby Come Back and I had to link the location to the new name I had given to the song. That fixed every issue and now all of my songs are downloaded to my Iphone.

I imagine this will fix whatever issue you have with songs not transferring. If you right click on the songs with a ! to the left of them as they are listed in Itunes, then right click the song, then click "get info", and find the song manually, it will connect the song from Itunes to a legitimate place where the song is stored. You should only have to do it once per song.

I don't understand why people are buying this junk; I spend 2 hours today with Apple support and they couldn't fix the problem... This product is a joke. Why does anybody need stupid iTunes for Unix based device? Why not to use generic SSH?

Copytrans is awesome, I had the same problem with m son's Ipod touch, this site allows you to freely manage your own music at will.

How about try this one:Aniosoft iBackup which enables you to transfer iPod's music and other content to any storage device and iTunes as well. And both the backup in the storage device can be recovered and restored with no any change and no any risk. And the data in the iTunes is quite in accord with the iPod's data including its playlists, rating and etc.
