Hello,

I am running a Toshiba laptop and after receiving a nasty virus I have no other option but to reformat my computer. Unfortunately my computer came with no back up disks and has no ghost back-up available. I found the window's 7 beta that can be used until June, 2010, which is great because I can not afford an operating system at this time. The dvd will not boot even after I have my cd/dvd drive first in order to boot. I checked the boot disc on my HP laptop and it seems to work on it. Any suggestions or solutions to this annoying problem?

Thank you,

James

Configuration: Windows XP
Firefox 3.0.10

I don't really know the answer to this, but you may want to contact your local computer store and see if someone there can help you. I am thankful because I have a techie husband and some very techie friends who are also neighbors.

Are you able to identify the virus?

Viruses are tricky things, always make sure you have a good virus protector installed. I have 2 different ones installed just in case. Speaking of Windows 7, It comes out in Ontario tomorrow. I'm not too sure if I'll upgrade. Vista made me lose faith in new Windows products.

I have had a Toshiba where erasure of the hard disk meant no way of replacing the OS due to lack of an internal or attachable CD drive.

Have you tried using anti-virus software to see if you can clean the drive?

If it's true that there is no way to save your system, you may be forced to get new operating system disks.
I would suggest trying to find a low price version of an operating system CD/DVD. If you are a student, try your local university which may have a deal with Windows 7 for cheap. You can also look online through eBay or other retailers that may have used OS software. If that doesn't work, you can also try switching to Linux, a free operating system. Borrow a disk from a friend or pick one up online for a very low price.

No, it's not such serious problem. I had this kind of problem several times before, but I was using a lower edition of opration system. Maybe you just ask the local ditributor to fix it, they are professional.
