Network settings loop

Hello,
my imac has suddenly got this annoying pop up window on a loop telling me that my network settings have been changed by another application.It keeps coming back and I cannot switch off my computer I am trying to access the security through the system preferences but I am not given any opportunity to click on it: it is not in black but grey showing me it is not an available option...I was trying to put James suggestions into practice...any suggestions as to how I can get rid of this annoyance?Help!
