Computer Infected - Screen is Black

Hello,

I was on the internet the other day and my computer received some sort of virus. The screen went bananas. It turned all different colors, then displayed a message indicating my computer was infected. A graphic appeared which showed my files being deleted. My keys wouldn't respond - I began to panic - so I pressed the button to power it down. When I turned it on a few minutes later, all I got was a black (blank) screen. Nothing was happening.

I then rebooted in 'safe mode,' but all I saw were the words 'safe mode' in all four corners of the screen, which was black again. When I hit Ctrl +Alt +Del, a box poped up telling me Task Manager was disabled by the Administrator. I am helpless. I can't access anything. The screen is black with only the cursor visible. I am running Windows XP Home with McAffe for protection (a lot of good that did). Can anyone suggest a possible remedy? Thanks.

Configuration: Windows XP Home, Internet Explorer 7.0
