Hello,
I bought a new MSI notebook which had Windows Vista on it and have been trying to install Windows XP on it. I took the original Vista WD 320GB 5400rpm HD out, and put in a brand new WD 320GB 7200rpm HD. I tried to load Windows XP with the new HD in, but it stopped. So I thought maybe the new HD needed to be formatted, so I let Windows Vista format the new HD. That didn't work. It still did the same thing. So i bought another WD 3200GB 7200rpm HD and tried it fresh. And when loading Windows XP, it still stops.
Here's what happens as i start loadng Windows XP, it starts to install, then it stops the installation and gives this message:
"A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. Check for viruses. Remove any newly installed HD's, or HD controllers. Check to make sure it is properly configured and terminated. Then; Run CHKDSK /F to check HD corruption, and restart computer.

Also, still working with the same notebook computer; for a few days I was able to change the BIOS, but now it gives no option to let me change it. It now only gives this option "View Only Item", with just the "OK" choice. It won't even let me exit using the F9 key, which would set it to "Load Setup Defaults". I don't know what i did that made it respond this way. Is there a function key that i may have entered unintentionally?
Here is the "System Information" in the BIOS:
