Hello,
i recently purchased a dell inspiron 1545 around 2-3 months ago it is a windows vista laptop
yesterday i switched the laptop of as normal & when i went to switch it back on it done the following :

*DELL logo and a loding bar with inspiron underneath then at the right corner F2 Setup F12 Boot
*it then goes onto a black screan with white writeing saying

Windows Failed to start.A recent hardware or software change might be the cause.

If windows files have been damagd pr configured incorrectly,Startup repair can help diagnose & fix the probolem. If power was interupted during startup, choose windows normally.
(use the arrow keys to choose ure choise)
*Launch Startup Repair (Recomended)
*Start Windows Normally

Seconds untill the highlighted choice will be selected automaticly:number counting down))
Description:tells what ;aunch repaor & start windows normally does

*(when i click either choice it comes up a loding bar with Windows coarparation underneath

*after that it comes up a black screen for about:10 minutes

*then it goes onto a blue screen saying:

STOP: c0000135 {Unable To Locate Component}
This application has failed to start because KERNEL32.dll was not found. Re-inst alling the application may fix this problem

Configuration: Windows XP Internet Explorer 7.0

You probably want to reinstall vista.... im hoping for your sake that you have an install DVD that came with the computer. When you start the laptop, have the vista disk in the drive. It will ask if you want to boot from cd\dvd, do it. Then you should get an option to repair windows when you get into vista setup. If you do not have a disk, you should be able to do it with any vista disk. It will load up and DO NOT format, install, or anything like that. Im almost positive there is a repair option there because i know ive used it on my laptop before.

BTW mine didnt come with a disk either, so i had to use the one i had for my desktop.

Well, i think i've read this post to late. I have a Dell Studio 1535 and wanted to do a clean install beacause of some trojand and filthy bugs. So I did, but unfortunately formated the OS partition. I've lost my DVD Recovery (with OEM Operating System) too and now I got stuck. I've tried all kind of drivers for the "driver installation" sequence, I mean Chipset drivers downloaded from dell.com, but still the same thing: blue screen and then it resets. Please give me an ideea how to install vista back on it.

P.S. : I tought of installing XP and then do an upgrade. Will it work?

Thanks in advance!

I dont know about big white arrows, your cursor is going to look large, because the screen will be set to the lowest resolution.
let it load and run the repair

I have this problem on my HP computer that is running Vista. I have not tried to reformat yet, because I am trying to save my documents on my computer. I couldn't get to the repair feature on the Vista disks so I ended up doing a full diagnostic test on my computer using built in one. And I got these results that should be looked into...

100% of system memory tested OK
3,993,026,560 bytes of system memory tested OK
Memory test passed

Primary Hard Disk Self Test
Quick Test
0% Complete...
#10008 - Replace Hard Disk 1

SMART check
1720 - S.M.A.R.T. Hard Drive detects imminent failure.

Press <Esc> to Continue

As you can see it says you need to Replace Hard Disk 1 which I imagine means that you need to replace the Hard Drive for your computer.

Can anyone backup my reply or give any idea of how to fix/get files off of the Hard Drive

I could not edit my post, but It is confirmed, the Hard Drive on the laptop is bad. Luckily though for both of us it is a free fix, because the 1 yr manufacturers warranty covers this so contact Dell through email or phone and tell them about your problem. Then they will send you a new Hard Drive which is easy to install and you just send your old one back once you receive the new Hard Drive. And all of this including shipping and handling is free. They told me that it will take 3-7 business days to receive my replacement Hard Drive.

Same problem as yours. Vista loading screen does its thing then goes completely black. I also noticed that this had occurred after installing a driver from Nvidia. I had to unfortunately reinstall the drive but every thing that was important was still in the windows old directory after reinstalling but still had to reinstall all my old apps. GRRR... Solution .... get rid of vista burn it melt it what ever and upgrade to Windows 7 as fast or faster than even XP. Finally MS did something right....

Specs are:
i7 945
6gb corsaid dominator ddr3 ram
2 x 1tb HD
BFG 280 GTX OC
P6T Asus MOBO

Before going to the extreme of restoring the OS try the following from the black screen.
start task manager via alt-ctl-del
Then start a new task control.exe which will show up the control panel
Go to users and add a new user
Lof off via task manager and log on to the new user.
If it starts OK at least you have access to the user files that can be saved.

I have the same problem and working through it although I don't have a fix yet for the original user.
