Writing photos to dvd

Hello,
I am trying to burn photos to a dvd on my computer. I have a dvd burner but it seems to only want to burn to a cd. As there are a lot of holiday photos I don't want to use several cd's and wanted to put them all on 1 dvd.
What am I doing wrong. Wizard just says burn to cd and when I put a dvd in it says not suitable disc.

Configuration: Windows XP
Firefox 3.0.10

Make sure you have a DVD drive.
you can use the Nero software to burn your DVDs.

Mine is doing the same thing. I have a dvd-rw drive. I used Nero to burn photos to dvd. However it says incompatible. Use CD-R. What do i do?
