Hello, I'm having a hell of a time getting on-line. (Please dont be to hard on me I'm not very comp literate) here we go !. Right now I have a wireless connection to my router it works but randomly and when it does work it is very laggy but there are no other comps on it and it does have security and is only 10 feet away with a "N" router. I decided to go wired connection (should be good) I pluged in to my wireless router but no go MTU to low (its not I looked on my router set-up) I have phoned all support lines and they seem to fix it but it last a week at best then fails again. I tried direct to my modem but my xbox cannot obtain an IP from it so I cant do anything that way I have had my xbox working hard connection and wireless connection but it never lasts and always fails then seems to be worse when I finally find a new solution. Could my xbox be the problem or my modem/router. Please help I need it. Thanks

Configuration: Windows XP
Internet Explorer 7.0

You xbox must be connected to your router. The router will assign an IP address to your Xbox allowing connection. So if you have secured wifi connected you just have to insert the corek WEP key to your Xbox. Then try to register the connection to your Xbox if your router does has this feature.

Normally it will work fine.

Modems never assign an IP adress.. It uses only the IP address assigned by the Service Provider.

Im having a similar problem, My xbox live worked fine and then one day I tried to connect and it hasnt worked since, I have had this problem for about a week now with no success. I have typed all information into my xbox manually, IP addres/ Subnet mask/ Gateway... all information is correct but it simply isnt working. I use a wired connection for both my laptop and xbox and clearly my internet is still working... WHAT THE HELL? Do i need to find my PPPOE (Piont to point protocal over ethernet) I have never needed it before and all information was that in which I used before when my xbox live was connecting perfectly.

I have recently had internet trouble though and my service provider sent me a new modem, internet now works fine on my laptop and obviously all information (IP, subnet...) is still the same but I simply cant connect. All my xbox is telling me when I troubleshoot/ test connection is something about a static IP address but that simply means that it is a manually typed in IP rather than automatic. All I am told to do is turn off my modem and turn it back on and wait 30 seconds, this does not help at all and I have peformed this step alot of times.

Any advice or help would be appreciated, this problem is pissing me off so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
