Hello,
I have an HP Pavilion DV6000 with an intermittent power on problem. Many times when I insert the power [lug into the unit the blue light at the front won't come on. If I jiggle, rap, insert and reinsert the plug the blue light at the front may come on. The blue light at the right rear power plug port always comes on. When the blue light is on light is on it may or may not start. If a press the power button, rear left, it will do nothing, usually. If a keep pressing the button and lightly rapping the rear silver panel it will start after a bit. When it starts it boots normally. It will do this with or without the battery installed. When the battery is installed and the computer is running it charges and discharges the battery normally.
It seems like a bad connection but when I take the covers off and inspect things it seems OK. I've sprayed contact cleaner into the PCB mounted momentary power contact button under the rear plastic cover no help.
I've not disassembled enough to get to the MB point where the momentary contact button starts the PC, just the rear cables and connection between the power plug and power button.
Does anyone have any ideas where to look. I have a technical background, meters and can trouble shoot.
Configuration: Windows Vista Internet Explorer 7.0
I have the exact same computer and my charge never works.I have to constantly jiggle the cord to get the blue light on and if the cord moves a little it goes off.I've been through about six power cords(they all broke) i guess they all suck for this type of computer.I really don't think there is much you can do ....i think it's just bad computer making.

Hmm i have a dv5000 series HP Laptop. and last fall my Original AC adapter took damage n couldn't function so i got a new one... a 65W Recommended piece from HP and it's been maybe 7 months and it doesn't function anymore. or so it seems. I'm fine with getting a new one but if it still doesn't work when i pay the 70$ is gunna be a pain. Just want to be sure or whether or not a further repair would be necessiary but from what you've said perhaps i should just get another n try. |
I suggest you halt you notebook by press you power button last 4 seconds. Or updata your notebook BIOS if this problem haven't fixed. If this can't work buy a new hp dv6000 battery for replace.

Hey,
|
I called technical support today because I have a similar problem with my laptop not charging properly and it seems as though its beginning to not recognize the AC Adapter (which I've only had for about 3 weeks and works fine otherwise). So the problem may be the actual power port. I'm deciding whether to send it in to get fixed (tech support said that the repair could costs upwards to 400) and buying a new laptop... |
I'm currently repairing a dv6000 with a similar problem. the blue light on the side where the AC adapter plugs in to the DC jack is pretty much always on. but the computer doesn't charge. i've taken it apart and tested the voltage using a multimeter. i took the dc jack board all the way out of the laptop. it was the easiest way to test it. i found that it had a wide flux in voltage when the cord was moved around. pretty much the DC jack is broken. a recurring problem with a lot of laptops these days. happened on my moms laptop. basically you can bring it to best buy if you have the warranty. they're going to swap out the entire motherboard. but if you don't have the warranty they are going to tell you its gonna be about as much to fix it as a new computer costs. buuuut. you can buy the DC jack for 30 dollars. thats right. the single item you need to solve the issue only costs 30 bucks. but if you don't know how to fix it i would not recommend trying to open your computer to do this. try and find a local small computer repair shop that will do the repair for you or hopefully you have a friend that is a computer tech(my friends are lucky i tell you ha). you can search for places to buy the DC jacks on google. just type in the model of your laptop and DC jack. hope this helps you all out |
It's very common for the jack to break where it is physically mounted to the motherboard inside the case. Impact on the cord when it is plugged in will cause this breakage - it's very common with all laptops. If the connection seems "sloppy" and loose when you plug the cable in, that may be what is going on. You can repair this yourself if you source out a new jack and are very comfortable with soldering skills and laptop dis assembly. Most people would be better off to farm it out to a professional. Here is a depot repair option that is vvery reasonable priced:

Hello u all seem like u no wat ur taliking about.... i went threw so many problems with laptops from macbook ( random shutdown problem) to now with my hp pavilion dv6000... ok so im a freshman at college and of course i need my laptop..a few weeks ago my mom used my laptop on the deck with the power cord but as she was coming in she accidently slammed the door on the power cord and now there are a few i guess u could call them slight cuts in the insulater of the power cord that runs down in to the wires which are now visible and i can tell that a few of the wires under the power cord are kind sliced..but its not like a big gash its like a slit but the wires are still visible..so i guess my question is because now that my laptop wont turn on i belive its because the adapter is ruined so ofcourse the laptop wont charge i belieeve and that i just need to get a new adapter so that itll finally work again because ive never had any of the problems everyone else is having with there dv6000..so can someone help me...o yea i also think its ruined because when i take out the battery and leave in the adapter the blue light still doesnt come on so it must be the cord right?????? |

Wow... my dv6000 has the exact same problem. I actually had this problem before but I fixed it by shoving an eraser under where it plugs in. This would keep the pin the right position. Eventually, I bought a new AC adapter (one that has a removable attachment where the end would be, actually) and it's doing the same thing again
|
I have a dv6000. No warranty. AC adapter just went out. How do I know it is this issue? well I took the battery out and it couldn't turn on when the cord is plugged in. So I assume it is the cord. This has happened twice before to me. There is no burning smell, and the icon on the screen keeps going between plugged in and not plugged in. the blue light is on.
|
The first time my ac adapter went out, it got broken because i travelled with it a lot. But after that i bought a new one, with the detachable end, viz the most annoying thing ever. that stopped working after a few monce!! then i started using an olod adapter from an old hp laptop and now that has gone off too..same crap...it starts with positioning problems, then the plugged in sign goes on/off and then finally it gives up. and i tried my friends adapter on my computer and it works perfect! so its obviously the adapter that gets killed in a few months somehow...interesting it started happening right after 1 yr of the laptop was over, so was the warranty.

Here is the real solution.
