Hello,

I recently installed AVG 8.5 on my pc, and it worked great, now my pc is running better than ever.
So, I decided to install it on my girlfriend's son's pc as well....
Once it had installed, it caused the pc to run really slowly, then after a restart the pc kept locking up on the desktop, not allowing me to do anything.

I ran the PC in safe mode and ran AVG from there finding 131 infected files, seems to me that a lot of these files are in areas that the pc needs and where AVG was trying to quarantine them while the pc was running was causing the lock up. Frustrating thing was, that even after running it trying to restart the pc resulted in lock ups on the desktop again.

I have rolled the pc back to before I installed the software now, but this leaves the viruses still on the pc.

Any idea on a work around for this? Or do I need to do a clean install? If that could be avoided it would be grand.

Configuration: Windows XP
Internet Explorer 7.0

You could always pop the HD in a different pc as 2nd drive and scan and clean it that way, since then the host pc wouldnt be infected as it's protected BEFOREHAND.

Despite what you may beleive, registry cleaning apps cause more bother than they fix, often you will notice new issues months down the line after using one.
