I am completely mystified with this and it's driving me nuts. I have a Dell 690 (XP) which has been running quite sweetly for 2 1/2 years no problem. I switched it on on Monday morning it spins up for 3 seconds then nothing. We replaced the power switch - no change. We replaced the power supply - no change. We replaced the motherboard - no change. We changed the graphics card and the machine booted right up! Bad graphics card right? wrong. The card I was using is a 3DLabs Wildcat Realizm 800, I replaced it with an Nvidia FX4500. Some of my software doesn't work well with the Nvidia so I purchased a replacement Realizm 800 card, put it in the Dell and guess what? it won't boot. Corrupt driver I hear you say! Removed the driver and deleted all remnants of 3DLabs software in safe mode. It still won't boot. Pop the FX4500 in and away we go. Next I tested both the Realizm 800 cards in another machine and booted up no problem both times. So there's nothing wrong with cards, right? I think the machine is hanging onto some corrupted configuration or the like and I cannot clear it. This is the funkiest thing can someone help me put this to rest?

Mr Bishop, thanks for your help. I did what you suggested to no avail. This card is compatible with my system - I've been using it for over two years. It just stopped working and a replacement card has the same result. I still favour a corrupt driver and the system holding onto something.

Hi... I've had the same problem with my 690 except mine suddenly decided it didn't like its graphics card (and began to progressively eat hard disks, but I think that's another problem)

Worked no problems for 2 years and then decided it didn't like the graphics card. Trying to reinstall the drivers for it just made it crash instantly so I removed the PCI card. Now if i plug the card back into the motherboard it won't even start and emits an angry beeping sound.
