Laptop switches off when power plug taken out

For a few days , my laptop has been switching off everytime i take of the power plug !!!! there's like a red cross on the battery symbol on the desktop !!!!! if i click on it it says fully charged. bt if I take the plug off ,it wouldn't work !!!!!!
I've only had it for a few months and its a HP pavilion dv5

Can anyoe tell me whats wrong ..

That sounds like you dropped it but if you only had it for a few months jus call up hp and tell them the issue i think they will let you send it back and get a new one
