Hello,

Okay, I know this topic has come up numerous times but i just can't find the right solution that works for me.

Manufacturer: Acer
Model: Aspire T180
OS: Vista Home Premium
Motherboard: It says it is unknown when i look at it.

I have tried almost all of the suggestions i could find on the but no luck.
System restore is not an option for me because the sound stopped working a while ago.
Reformatting isn't an option for me either.
The "easy" fix doesn't work either (disable and enable device via device manager)

There is also a yellow exclamation mark on icon of the driver in device manager.
When i right click > properties, it says it is corrupt or missing (code 39)
When windows tries to install the driver, the installation will fail.
I went into the BIOS page but i could not find the audio enable/disable option.
I have also tried installing/reinstalling the software several times, each with different drivers but none of them worked.
(I only have one driver under "Sound, video and game controllers" )

The audio device i was using before i changed anything to fix the sound was Realtek High Definition Audio Driver R1. 53.
Iv tried installing the AC'97 Audio Codec but during the install wizard, the message "The publisher of this program is unknown" and it gives the option of continuing anyways or not install it, when i click continue, the message will just pop back up again several minutes later and the installation will never finish

My computer came with Vista Home Premium and i do not wish to downgrade t o XP seeing as how i lack to knowledge/patience/skill to do so.

Help would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

PS: Any idea why the scroll via mouse wheel does not work? Sometimes it will work (Auto scrolling works)

Configuration: Windows Vista
Firefox 3.0.8

Did you try uninstalling the sound driver and install a newer one?

Hello Defect,

Yes I have tried reinstalling and installing a newer, updated version, with no luck.
I have an entirely new problem now, i installed service pack 1 and now it is recognizing the driver but there is still no sound. The drivers and speakers are working fine but there is just no sound. It is not on mute and the volume is at 100 and both the system and the speakers. Yes the speakers are properly plugged in the computer and it is turned on. They are also in the right port.
I've tried several speakers and none of them emit any sound but they do on other computers. (Headphones and mic don't work either)

Hi, i have just the same problem as you. Have you found the solution ? I've tried everything that most people say that will fix it but it doesn't.

I have a hp laptop and d way i fixed it was by going to the control pannel and then clicking on d uninstall r install icon, u know d programes and features ting. Then i put them in order of (date added) and i scrolled down until very near the bottom i came across a programe called "(something) audio" i cant remem what d exact name was because i changed when i did this. as far as i remem it was sumtin like "coxieal" audio but only spelt sumtin like that. anyway i just clicked on it as if i were going to erase it and then it came up saying do you want to change/uninstall..... i clicked ok and then a message came up at the bottom right of the screen saying "installing drivers" r sumtin lik dat and when it was fin hey presto sound was working grand again.

Hope this helps ye, let me know if it does.......

I bought a Acer system a couple of months ago with a multimedia keyboard and could not hear the sound. I discovered (to my embarrassment) that there is a mute key on the KB and once I pressed it ... sound happened.

I have had the same problem, I have Just fixed my problem of No Sound, and i have a new vista HP Laptop. I typed into my start menu, Help and support, which is you help site for your brand of laptop.
The Help and support system came up and i typed in the serch box Audio, like 20 different solutions came up, but you need to scrol down to the one which says something similar to
- Update a driver for hardware that isn't working properly.
-Then 3 options should appear, You need to click on the one that says manually update drivers.
-It comes down with some instructions if you follow them the problem should solve itself, then test your sound with a song, or a movie etc and it should work....

Hey Presto!

(:

I had the same problem and I fixed it...what I did (finally after sitting on hold for an hour with microsoft help) is I went to

1. START
2. right click on computer/my computer
3. click on manage
4. click on device manager
5. click on sound, video, game controllers
6. click on realtek high definition audio (or whatever your sound system is)
7. click on the Driver tab
8. Unistall the driver
9. then click on the pic of the speaker w/ the red x.
10. troubleshoot problems

then the trouble shooter should say something like install driver or something...but anyways...it should re-install a driver for the speakers and then they should work :)

I had this problem, called Microsoft for help...and they take so long that you are better off trying to fix it urself :)
