ITunes does not allow you to copy songs from your iPod to the PC. They do not want to make it easy to share music. But, There are a number of commercial programs that can copy your iPod. You might try this free program: http://www.getsharepod.com/

Good Luck

Don't auto sync, otherwise, iTunes will replace all iPod existing songs.
I've suffered loss of all my iPod files. It's so upsetting.
I recommend you to transfer them to your iTunes use this iPod to iTunes Transfer

and there is a step by step instruction on how to transfer songs from ipod to itunes with this ipod to itunes transfer

If you are running a Mac, you can try xPort (www.xtremsoft.com) or Copytrans if you are on PC (www.copytrans.net).

Try copying the ipod_control folder (which has all your songs on it) in your ipod onto the harddrive and then add the whole folder to Itunes through the File menu.

That works for me.

When I changed my computer for my iPod, this guide finally helped me copy all my iPod songs and videos onto my brand new iTunes http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/...

You should find both guides for PC and Mac.

This TOTALLY worked - thank you so much. you have to do it a few files at a time - select "file" in itunes then "add file to library". you'll have to do a few at a time from each of the F folders (F00, F01, etc.). select like 6 at a time to do, otherwise they don't seem to pull through. a little time consuming, but TOTALLY worth it! thank you!!!

Hi.

The solution is to use CopyTrans. This application allows you to transfer your music and video (including playlist and artworks) from your iPod to your PC (with automatic iTunes importation).

Have a try: http://www.copytrans.net/copytrans.php

Thank you so much for the advice regarding CopyTrans, it was perfect for my needs.

http://www.copytrans.net/

I had to run a factory reset on my pc, not even considering the music I had stored on here, and I lost everything.

CopyTrans allows you to copy 100 tracks in trial mode, then if you have more, you can purchase the software.
It's not expensive, around £15 (or whatever the equivalent $20usd is at the moment) but it enabled me to gain the confidence in the product in the trial mode then I did go on and buy it to download the remainder of my music.
Brilliant, really helpful, thank you guys.
