Hello,
I am having a problem. My laptop LCD screen broke and I don't have the money to replace it, but what I do have is a extra Monitor. I want to hook my laptop up to this monitor but I can't see what I am doing with the screen broken. I wanted to know if there was any buttons I could press to make it show up on the external monitor. I have a HP Pavilion dv9000. Please Help.

Configuration: Windows XP
Firefox 3.0.7

I am dealing with the same issue. Laptop's hard drive checks ok. LCD went out... can't see anything unless you get a flash light and angle it a certain way. I tried the FN+F4 and it won't switch to external display. I can see where it is at the Windows Vista Premium page with User 1 + User 2 but because the screen is black I can't seem to find the mouse to click on a USER. I tried hitting enter... nothing... HELP!!!!

I have a pavillion dv7 1175 .It was stolen but the police got it back.Ichecked it out and looks like someone punched the screen.I connected external monitor,it is switching to the external monitor right after the windows(vista) log in screen comes up. At that time the Fn/F4 starts to work.I can cycle between both screens external only and internal only. The problem i have now is the thief changed the password and now i cannot log in.Neither can i see any of the password reset programs because they load before windows and the switching on of the external monitor.

I'm not so sure aboute exatly your type, but normally you have to remove RAM cover on the bottom (before need to remove the battery and unplug) and should find the copper track some-wher in the conner shaped like U and T inside. U-track you have to jump to the chassi for 25-30 sec. And primary password is normally erased.
But seek more presizely about your model.
