Hello,
I have a hp pavillion dv6000 laptop that has vista on it right now. I am trying to install XP onto it but when I boot from cd, the message comes up saying that it cannot locate the hard disk drive and prompts me to exit setup with F3.
I have tried reading other forums and searched for other similar errors but could not find a solution. I have also read something about a SATA driver but have no clue what that is.
All that I wanted to do is re-format to XP (which is a lot better then vista!). Is there anyone that could help me out?
Thanks

Configuration: Windows XP
Internet Explorer 7.0

These HP laptops have SATA hardware that the Windows XP CD does not support. You will also find that most of the other hardware device drivers for XP are not provided by HP.

If you don't understand the SATA driver issue and the need to "slipstream" the drivers I suggest you NOT attempt this conversion.

I you do manage to install XP you will then find that you are missing device drivers for the other hardware chips on the Motherboard. Your sound and internet will not work and the custom HP buttons don't function. If the laptop is still under warranty HP will not provide support for Windows XP.

If it helps at all, the laptop originally came with XP. I then upgraded it to a "mock vista" version that really was XP but looked like vista (I regret it now!). So this is my 2nd time reformatting it and now I'm just going back to regular XP.
The laptop is no longer under waranty but I am hoping that I can still save it. Any other suggestions?
