Hi,
this may be due to newly installed devices to your computer.
or it may be due to an internal problem.
if so is the case, get it repaired by a qualified technician.

Hi,
You have a problem with your CPU fan. Can you hear the fan spinning when the laptop is working. If so need to clean the heatsink. You have to take laptop apart to clean the heatsink. One other thing you can try before anything is update your bios. Hp web site will have a update.

Hi,
If the fan spinning when switch on the laptop and no display this can be a problem with the memory. Try removing it putting it back and also if you have 2 memory cards try with one. Try connecting to a external monitor. If it works on a external monitor problem is with the inverter or LCD flex cable.

HP's pop-up window stated that my DV6663US (Vista Ultimate 64) laptop needed a bios update. I foolishly believed them, followed the instructions and installed the update, which destroyed the laptop. The laptop was working, but now nothing works and HP says they aren't responsible because it is out of warranty, but for the price of a new laptop, they will install a new motherboard. WARNING: Do NOT take HP's statements at face value. HP may have needed to destroy my laptop in order to inspire me to buy a new laptop, but it won't be an HP.

Finally i found someone else with my problem, i got a HP pavilion dv6700 with nvidia graphics and windows vista. It worked fine until today when it just wouldnt show me crap on the screen, ive tried searching for it on this forum but all i found was press ctrl+alt+delete and do lotsa stuff... BUT HOW THE H£LL can i do that when i cant see anything and the computer wont even respond to anything else than the power button? The fan is going and all the stuff on my keyboard is lighting up like it should, but the screen is jsut like it was before i turned on the computer. I guess its my graphics card thats against me on this one. Theres obviously no warranty on it and i dont want to buy a new graphic card when i dont even know if thats the problem.
So if anyone could help me i would be forever happy. I liek caekes

How did you discover that your laptop was in hibernate? I have a hp pavillion dv6000 and am having the same problem. I put it in sleep mode yesterday and when I went to turn it back on everything lights up but the screen will not come on. I have tried taking the battery out and putting it back in and nothing seems to help. I cannot do anything except turn it on and watch it light up. Responds to nothing!

That was my exact problem too, but i dont know exactly what happened because it was my sister that turned it on. When i came to check it out it was all working, even though i had turned it on and off like a hundred times, i even pulled out the battery ffs! But one thing is sure, dont ever use hibernate or sleep mode or whatever, is messes up the computer. It killed our last computer for sure. And btw i put it in hibernate the same day as you and came back the next day to turn it on so maybe it was a "kill all HPs in hibernate night" ? I dont know for sure but it is kinda weird that this happens to the same kind of computer on the same night, as for my post above somewhere i said that i have a dv6700, no idea where that came from cause i got a HP pavilion dv6000.

EDIT: I dont know about other computers but hibernate seems to kill any kind of HPs. I liek caekes

I'm using a hp pavilion dv6449us model and it is having the same problem. When I turn on the leds glow normally but the screen is black. I don't even hear a sound . When I contacted the cust care initially they told me to remove and put the battery back and that didn't work and they asked me to turn off and on again and press the F10 button so the laptop will goto BIOS mode.. but it didn't go... Finally he said it is due to HD problem if the laptop is not going into BIOS mode and has asked me to contact the service center in India.... Can some one confirm if its really a HD problem. I don't want to loose the data I have in my HD.

MAIN BOARD AND IT COST ME Rs.5000 TO REPLACE IT WITH NEW MOTHER BOARD,
LOOK WHAT HP EMPLOYEES ARE DOING IN INDIA, I CALL UP TO THE SERVICE CENTER THE CALL WAS RECEIVED BY SOME OF HP SERVICE CENTER EMPLOYEE AND SHE TRANSFERRED THE CALL TO TECHNICAL DEPARTMENT. I EXPLAIN MY PROBLEM TO HIM AND ACCORDING TO MY PROBLEM THE GUY REPLIED ME THAT MY MAIN BOARD HAS TO BE REPLACED. I ASK HIM WHAT IT WILL COST TO ME TO BUY NEW BOARD FOR MY HP DV2000 HE REPLIED 15ooo.00 INR. I WAS JUST SHOCKED TO KNOW THAT MY MAIN BOARD WILL COST 15000 INDIAN BUCKS...... I ASK HIM, IS THERE ANY OTHER WAY TO GET THE BOARD, HE EXCUSED AND END THE CALL,
AGAIN I CALLED TO THE SERVICE CENTER TO KNOW THAT IS, THERE ANY WAY TO GET IT REPAIRED THEY REFUSED ME. AFTER A LONG DISCUSSION I COME TO KNOW THAT IF I GIVE MY OLD MOTHER BOARD, THEY WILL SWAP IT FOR RS.8500.000 AND GIVE ONE MONTH WARRANTY, NOW I GET THE CLUE THAT COMPANY HAS SOME BLACK WHOLE PEOPLE WHO ARE READY TO HELP IN GETTING PRODUCT FROM BACK DOORS OF COMPANY OFFICE THIS SEEMS REALLY INTERESTING, NOW I MEET THAT GUY IN AND HE EXPLAINED ME WHOLE STORY HOW HE WILL SWAP THE MAIN BOARD FOR ME --- HE TOLD ME THAT HE WILL BRING BRAND NEW BOARD WITH SEALED FROM HP FOR ME AND HE WILL JUST TAKE MY MOTHER BOARD WITH HIM AND I ONLY HAVE TO PAY 8500 INDIAN BUCKS TO HIM, I BEGIN BARGING WITH HIM AND THE DEAL SET FOR RS 5000.00 INDIAN BUCKS AND THAT GUY GOT A BRAND NEW MAIN BOARD FOR ME !!!!! THAT IS WHAT ANY ONE WANT, HE TAKE MY DEFUSED MOTHERBOARD WITH HIM AND WHEN I ASK WHAT HE WILL DO WITH IT HE REPLY ME SMILING THAT HE WILL PUT IT AS DAMAGED PIECE AND COMPANY WILL GET IT REPLACED FOR NEW !!!!! :) HOW CLEVER AND SHARP EMPLOYEES ARE THERE IN HP SERVICE CENTERS. THEY ARE READY TO PROVIDE THINGS AT JUST 33% PRICE. I CAME TO KNOW THAT WHAT EVER I NEED NEW FOR MY DV2000 HE WILL REPLACE IT FOR ME JUST FOR FEW EXTRA BUCKS...... AWESOME DEALs. SO NEVER BUY ANYTHING FROM HP SERVICE CENTER THEY CHARGE YOU 70% HIGHER PRICE, MAKE SOME SETTINGS WITH EMPLOYEES AND GOT THE THINGS JUST FOR 30% PRICE.
ONE MORE GREAT THING ABOUT HP SERVICE CENTERS, WHAT THAT GUY TOLD ME ABOUT REPAIRING IS ALSO VERY HORRIBLE, OUR MAJOR LAPTOP CAME TO LOCAL EXPERTS FOR REPAIR AS HP EMPLOYEES ARE NOT AS EXPERTISE IN REPAIRING AND THEY JUST MAKE FOOL TO PUBLIC BY DOING THE THINGS IN SUCH WAYS............... WOOOOHoo HP....................KEEP IT UP MIND BLOWING EMPLOYEES NETWORK.... GREAT COMPANY WITH GREAT PEOPLE......

Its not a HD problem viji, it may be a loose contact of cables inside your laptop.Just plug out the HD, writer and Ram out and clean it once and then plug it and on the laptop, it may works.Try it out.

The problem "most" of you are having is due to overheating of the GPU, witch would explain the reason for it booting when it wants, and then finally not booting at all once its detached itself from the board, Here is a video to rig it up http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ctHTF3oNdxI but I must say this is VERY temporary solution I would try to fix it temporary and then sell it off as parts but please warn the person you sell it to, do not be a looser and sell someone a broken ass laptop like HP seems to be doing now.

Where do I find my laptop version? I have HP Windows Ultimate.

I left it last night into sleep mode like I always do. This morning I was able to use it just fine for about an hour, then the screen started to flicker and slowly the screen went gray with lines going verticals in different colors. Is this caused by the graphic card failure or is it the actual screen display?

I don't want to run to a technician without full knowing what is the issue or I might get myself under alot of cost.

Would appreciate any help possible, thank you.

Edit: My laptop is HP Pavillion dv9700.

It boots up, and everything seems to be properly working. It's just that nothing appears workable on the monitor screen. I have tried the prev guides on this forum such as rebooting, unplugging to reinstalling the memory stick/mother board but it doesn't change anything.

I'm in between the cause would either be the lcd screen/inverter or the graphic card that has the issue... Is there any other way to diagnose this problem?

The HP DV series laptops and some others have known motherboard issues and if you are lucky and have an affected model they will replace the motherboard free of charge but only HP can tell you if your model is affected by this. If not the laptop board for the DV series runs from 169.00 to 249.00 depending on your model

For DV2000 Laptop please contact HP - they have a recall going on. They will replace the motherboard for free. I told my friend and he got his done. Believe me on this.

For HP Touchscreen Laptop TX2110 US or similar, if you laptop isnt booting up and your are out of warranty, please call HP sales and Service, dont mention anything about your broken laptop, by HP extended warranty, will cost about $150. Wait for few days and then call Tech support and tell them your laptop went bad recently and have it shipped over to them and they will replace the parts for free because now you are covered in extended warranty.
The trick is to be able to buy extended warranty. It worked for me

Thanks.
ps: i really owed a reply to this forum bcs i was devastated when my laptop broke and now its fixed.
