Facebook Home page won't load

I've seen other messags like mine, but I haven't been able to solve this problem...

I have a desktop Emachines computer, and I'm using Windows XP.

Yesterday, I was using Facebook, and it was working fine. I was checking messages on one page, and playing the "Pirates" app in another window... and it all just stopped working. So I exited everything, and tried to sign back in, but when I did, the home page wouldn't load. It sort of comes up. It says Facebook, and it has the links at the top that say "profile, friends, inbox," and it has the little notification thing at the bottom... The little red bubble says I have 5 notifications, but when I click it nothing happens. I CAN however, click the "profile" link and go to my profile wall. I can see everything there, but none of the links work. I can't remove posts or anything.

I signed onto my husband's facebook, and then my sister's, and the same exact problem happened. Home page won't load, links don't work.

Everything else on the internet is working fine. Yahoo, Aol, Myspace, Google... it's all working perfectly.

I have emptied my cookies, cache, temporary folders. I have restarted the computer. I have allowed add ons and pop ups. I have made sure Facebook is a "Trusted Site." I have run Avast virus scan and Malwarebytes' Anti Malware scan. They detected no problems. Following a suggestion on this site, I downloaded Opera at www.opera.com. No results. I emailed Facebook. No answer. I called my ISP. Their answer: Server must be down. The server is not down. My sister down the road is on Facebook right now. My firewall is not blocking Facebook.

I think it may be a virus, because all of the icons on my desktop all suddenly have blue backgrounds for no reason... but Avast and Malwarebytes are finding nothing, there's nothing suspicious in my list of programs... However, if I did pick up a virus, it came from Facebook, because I'd been mostly offline for a long time, except to check my Facebook messages and play the facebook apps.

If anyone can tell me how to fix this, I will really appreciate it. I've wasted 2 hours today changing settings and downloading "fixes" that do nothing.

Configuration: Windows XP
Internet Explorer 7.0

Hi,
try to do a system restore to solve your problem.
>accessories
>system tools
>system restore
if despite doing a system restore your problem is not solved, then it must be a problem on facebook itself.

Can someone please tell me how to fix this, its very annoying and not sure what to do.

Luckily, I'm a genius and have figured out how to resolve this. Add an 's' after your http, thereby making it a secure site connection. In other words your url should read: https://www.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home (instead of http://... )

If you save the https format in your bookmarks, it should come up correctly every time. I also had a problem with friends pages not opening up, but when i added the 's' to the url, even those started working fine. I would think that there's a setting in the options menu's that should allow the browsers to recognize Facebook as a secure site, but don't know how to set it.

I've been having the exact same problem with my facebook homepage..

It also has 3 more aspects to it:
I can't log in to facebook (nothing happens when I click "log in" after typing in my details) UNLESS i'm using the https:// secure connections advised above...

AND

I can't post any wall posts / comments etc unless viewing that profile / pic in secure https:// connection

AND

I can't search any names in the bar at top right, unless i have the https:// secure page.

It's ruined my facebooking efficiency!!

I cannot login at all....
when i clik login it goes straight to "page cannot be displayed"

I have used
superantispyware
avast
some other on
norton online scan

IE7
IE8
FIREFOX

gone into registry and other things poking for that file and I cannot find it.

ONE OTHER THING IF ANYONE WOULD LIKE TO TRY: When i start poking around looking for this virus, this virus makes a scratching sound like it is a cat scratching in a litter box or maybe it sounds like a little bug scurrying around

Someone was creative

I had the exact same problem, and adding the 'S' to make the page a secure page solved the problem. However, I still could not use chat and had other problems, it annoyed me so much that I had to fix it.

Mine is working now fine. I think there is an issue with Kerio Personal Firewall, and the newest version of JAVA. I have uninstalled KPF, and now I can access facebook as normal.

Hope this helps some of you if the problem is the same.

Cure for failure to load facebook pages from IE8. Download: Update for Internet Explorer 8 Compatibility View List for Windows XP (KB971930) from Microsofts Windows update site
and once installed bring up IE8 and go to your facebook page. Then click on Page, then Compatability View Settings and then click on Add. Facebook will now load in Compatability View and should be visable.

This whole situation is beyond belief. Is this a virus? malware? worm? what?

It is nondiscriminatory with regard to operating system & browser & social networking site & whatever other program or site it infects.

Has anyone figured this out yet? And FYI the "s" doesn't work for me. I'm using a MacBook Pro OS 10.5.7 and the latest version of Safari. Another FYI: I can gain access to FB via Firefox (without using the "s") but not without some problems, e.g., when I first try and load FB I got an error message.

I have had the same problem recently with Facebook. Adding the "S" is a temporary fix although don't get me wrong, I am grateful for the information. I tried the Malware last night and it pulled several things off my computer (Thanks SO much, it really helped, I appreciate the info.) but didn't help my Facebook issues. Does anyone know if this "thing" is a virus (like on my computer) or is this a Facebook bug that they will have to deal with, but probably will not? Another question. When I run programs like Malware, is it able to scan my Facebook or other internet pages? If it doesn't can you set it up where it can? I am so frustrated over this situation. Would be grateful for any info. anyone could give me on the subject.
