My HP computer keeps freezing, HELP

sujathagio, on Wednesday 21 May 2008 à 11:51:35
Hello,

This computer I have at home randomly freezes, 3-4 times per day, and the only way out of it has been to reboot. A friend suggested that I format the hard drive and reinstall Vista... but I'm not sure if this is the problem. I get no error's prior to the freeze, just a complete stoppage. I tried purchasing another video card because I wanted that anyway... but the problem persists.

Suggestions Welcomed.
Configuration: Windows XP
Internet Explorer 6.0

Hello

Have you tried putting a heater on it ? Seriously though, is the memory sticks the same manufature? If not that could be the problem, I had one do that one time and had to switch it and then it quit freezing up on me.

Try this,
Press F2 when you reboot. Run the BIOS setup utility check on your memory and your hard drive. My guess is that the hard drive check will fail, and you'll need to replace the hard drive.

did you ever solve the "freeze" problem on your HP? I have the same thing going on and when I did the hard drive check, it came up that is was failing. so... now I am in search of a new hard drive. I have read about replacing it and it looks pretty straight forward. I am still stumped to understand if I will have to reload the operating system... then I will be hosed because I have no idea where my original disks are. Any advice is welcome.

Your PC is likely overheating.

When the CPU core temperature goes too high, the PC can seize up. Could be the CPU fan is faulty, the heatsink is poorly installed, there's too much dust on the heatsink, etc etc..

I had top open up my case and point an external fan at the motherboard for my HP to work for more than a few hours. at a time.

If it is under warranty, try sending it back.

Just a question.. by any chance are you using Avira AV? If yes, try uninstalling it and then see if the problem goes away. If it does, please be kind enough to let us know.
