Hello,
I have a relatively new Gateway laptop MT3422, purchased 1.5 years ago. When I try to turn the computer on the LED lights work and the fan makes noise, but the screen will not boot. I took out the battery and plugged in my computer to the power supply, and the computer worked just fine.
I do not know anything about computers, but I am assuming that this is a problem with the battery. Can this battery be fixed, would purchasing a new battery fix this problem, or should I seek a computer repair shop?
Thank you!
Configuration: Windows Vista
I've had the same problem, except it wouldn't boot on battery or when plugged in. I called Answers by Gateway, and was told to press and hold f1 f2 f3 f4 and enter then press the power button. After a couple of tries it worked. I have no idea why but it did. It seems to only fail on me when I restart (twice it has restarted for updates, and twice it didnt turn back on unless I press and hold f1 f2 f3 f4 and enter while powering it.

Hey, there i had the same problem , after extensive time messing with my laptop i came to find out that one of my ram slots was fried. I took a 2g ram from my girlfriends computer and tried this method as i only had a pair if 512s on my vista, one of them was gone. This goes for the black screen (pc laptop on power to drive and dvd/cd rom)and hard drive kicking in.
