Hello,
Hi
We have been manually testing our applications (web site and trading platforms) untill now. And we are evaluating our options to introduce selenium for automated regression testing. Our applications are quite complex in nature due to the fact that we provide real-time stock prices and also provide trading platforms for any index and for any intrument.
Our applications are built in Perl/HTML/AJAX and database is MySQL. We also use Java for realtime streaming of prices. Selenium, from its description on its home page states that it is a test tool for web application and is implemented as a firefox extension. My dilemma is whether Selenium will be able to test applications which are not browser based, like the trading platform?
We are looking for freeware at this instance and Selenium was suggested by one of our developer. But from where I see, Selenium is good for only browser based application and needs the person using it to be well versed with programming languages as record and run options in Selenium IDE are not very rich and often hesitate to record complex HTML or AJAX code. Please suggest if I am correct in thinking so?
Also please advice if there are alternative options to Selenium as an automated regression tool.
Thanks
