I tried using IE8 and it was a disaster. my computer froze, i could only get out of "half" of a page, had to use control-alt-delete repeatedly to end programs, and had to re-boot often. when i tried to uninstall IE8, that was a horrible mess. finally, i was able to delete all of it including remnants of IE7. i tried to re-install IE7 and now i cannot use the tools option. sooooooo-i called microsoft and they told me i had 3 options. 1) since i was using an "oem" version of windows xp, i could buy the disc. 2) i could call "dell" and ask them for help. or 3) i could use my credit card and for a fee, microsoft would help me. i said, "i choose option #4! i'm going to mozilla firefox!" and i hung up!

If you just downloaded service pack 3 then it might be because of a bug in the installation to download the patch go to

If half of you communicate with your computer like you communicate with us humans, my guess is your computers just don't have a clue what the hell you are on about.

My daughter was having problems with internet explorer not connecting to the internet, (cannot view the page) so after much research and trying, i checked to see what firewalls were installed. AOL had its firewall turned on. Windows XP firewall was turned off. I turned OFF the AOL firewall by clicking on the Safety and Security icon at the bottom of the screen (AOL was of course running). I then turned the Widows firewall ON because you need at least one on. Two firewalls on at once will cause problems sometimes. Anyway, with the AOL firewall turned OFF, Internet Explorer (which I had external to AOL) immediately locked on the internet. Just to make sure this was the culprit, I went back and turned ON the AOL firewall. Internet Explorer would not access the internet. So, what I.m trying to say is, that when AOL has its firewall on, it will not allow Internet Explorer to access the internet, no matter what version. I had no problem with using the Firefox browser at all with AOL firewall on. If Firefox will work for you and you would prefer to leave on the AOL firewall, have at it. Its OK.

So I've tried everything above. I believe to have a virus lodged somewhere in my files that won't allow Internet explorer to work at all. Also my computer will play random sounds, sounds like ads, but I won't have anything running. I did a virus scan and it says nothing was detected... I've bought a new virus scan but it needs the Internet to fully download.... Help please |
