Good evening,

I wrote in a previous message that my names.nsf is corrupted.
I don t know how to recover it, but I would like to use a new empty

Can you tell me how to generate a new file ?
Thanks for your help.

Unless you have another Notes client to create/copy the NSF from, then
you must make Notes think it is a virgin install as though you have just
installed from setup.exe.

This is extremely easy and may then allow you to open your corrupt
names.nsf and recover personal contacts etc.

In the \Lotus\Data directory, rename names.nsf to oldnames.nsf
In the \Lotus directory, make a copy of notes.ini and call it oldnotes.ini

The reason for doing this is a) possible recovery of oldnames.nsf
contents b) we are going to hack the notes.ini.

Once these files are copied, edit \lotus\notes.ini

Delete all entries apart from the following:

> [Notes]
> KitType=1
> Directory=D:\Program Files\lotus\notes\data
> InstallType=2

Do not modify the Directory= line to be like mine as you may have Notes
installed to different directories.

Save your changes.

Now start Lotus Notes. Notes will now think it is a fresh install and
want to re-populate the Notes.ini and create you a new NAMES.NSF.

To automatically create the names.nsf, the file pernames.ntf must exist
within to \lotus\data directory. If not, then it will not have a
template to create itself from and complain.

Start Notes as usual to setup all you details.

Once completed, you can then try open oldnames.nsf to gain access to
corrupt data.

Hope this helps
