Hello,
I have been having this problem from 3-4 days.I am unable to run any program except vlc player and mozilla 3.0.7. All the shortcuts have been converted to lnk files.Even IE-8 has crashed. I cannot even run a virus scan as no program is working. I cant open command or cmd from run. Actually from nothing is opening from Run, a dialog opens saying windows cannot open this file and asks for web help which it does not take or to choose program from a list for every program I try to run. Not even Regedit is opening. I cannot even play a dvd. That day I was browsing a torrent site of which I dont remember the name. My kaspersky antivirus warned me of a trojan and I blocked it, but I think it was installed from there only. Please help. Any help will be highly appreciated.

Configuration: Windows XP
Firefox 3.0.7

Hello,
This is a malware,
it delete your system file maliciously. Most malware will damage your registry,Cleaning the registry yourself would take several hours and could seriously damage your computer. So i suggest you try Registry Easy .
This tool will help you remove the program.

Hahahahaha i know this virus, i got it too and the only solution is to reformat all of your computer and do not use any exe from your backup because it infects mainly all exe so clear your pc completely and download new softwares ;)

I had this problem too.
you have to download a fix "file association" file from the internet regarding to your OS version then open it and it should be .reg and here the instruction that you can manually do:
TYPE in the notepad:(if you could open it not from the menu but from its location in your system)

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.exe]

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.exe]

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.exe\OpenWithList]

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.exe\OpenWithProgids]
"exefile"=hex(0):

save it as reg file.
then open it, after that all the .exe files will open correctly so you can do more repair to ur system.
