Hello,
I have a Toshiba Satellite A205-S5800 System unit and recently it was having problems with a high pitch wistling noise, like the noise you would hear when a tv station would go off the air late at night. Sometimes it would do it as soon as logging in to the desktop or sometimes after it has run awhile, there never was any certain time it would start but only after Windows Vista loaded. The person we bought it from has looked at it a couple of times describing a couple of things that could be causing it but never really pinpointing it down except for a loose hard drive or dirty fan. It never really was fixed but it's frequency of occuring had been reduced. Also recently it started making clicking noises when it was booting up. The noise is kind of like a click followed by a sound that is like maybe a golf ball falling into the cup in a hole, if that makes sense. One night after bringing it home from the guy we purchased it from after he looked it over it crashed. Unfortunately it was also the same night he was going out of town for a couple months for his actual employment. I installed the recovery discs that came with the laptop and it appeared to be working fine for a few days while still making the clicking noises. The noises didn't last long but usually only occurred while it was booting up. I never heard the whistling after running the recovery discs. Then after a few days it crashed again. And now to try and shorten this when I install the recovery disc I get the following message...Toshiba Recovery Wizard Error: 01-0134-0000 The tool could not get HDD physical information. Press OK to turn off computer.

Basically I cannot get the recovery discs to work properly now and I cannot get it to boot up or anything. I will get the Toshiba logo page where it says to go to F2 or F12 but it will not go any further and the clicking noises are always there when this start up page comes on after turning on the computer. Trying to go into either of those areas takes a long time and really is no help to me anyway. I can still put the recovery disc in and after awhile on the start up page it will go into the disc to the option page for either Toshiba Recovery Wizard or System Recovery Options. When I try system recovery it gets the error. I have not had much success with System Recovery Options either since I am really not sure what I could do with it. Any suggestions while I wait to hear back from the guy we bought it from and hope the warranty covers repairs?

Configuration: Windows Vista

Hi There to hazard a guess I would think your hard drive has failed. Thats the only thing in your laptop that would make any serious noise like that. Even a faulty fan would not make that sort of noise.
