Vga to hdmi cable not working from laptop to pc

vga to hdmi cable is brand new, not connect to tv, i have tried graphic properties and everything possible including checking each settings on extended, clone and just projector, im using the vga end in the laptop and hdmi in the tv, i cant use hdmi in the laptop end as the hdmi port isnt working, could the vga port be deactivated please help me in urgent need..... Thanks guys and girls

HDMI is not a standard!

What that means, is not all HDMI products HAVE to play nice in the sandbox! Always make certain that your adjunct piece of equipment is supported by your version of hardware!

I don't think there is such a thing as a "vga to hdmi cable". A hdmi to vga cable does not work in both directions.

There are vga to hdmi adapters that are powered.
