Hi, I have face some problem. I wanted to use command prompt to shut down another PC, but it doesn't seem to work. I had tried typing>>
shutdown /s (computer name),
but it stated Access Denied 5. How do I fix this problem? How do I get access from another PC?

Thank you.

What environment are these PCs in?

domain, workgroup?

are you running CMD as an administrator?

Even if you are running as ADMIN, the same profile must be present in the other pc you are trying to shut down.

Mark, If it is a domain environment and he's an administrator it will be possible.

I've never done it in a workgroup environment.

If he is a network admin, he isn't coming here for help. I have used other network resources as users of the machine, without a domain. I just know the user profile and the rights.

Sometimes you may wish to not ever give the "user" the right to turn the machine off.
