2 Router LAN to WAN

I am attempting to set up 2 routers, LAN (2.1) to WAN (1.1). Upon initial setup, I setup the routers together connecting to them one at a time to configure them. After configuring and connecting everything within the same room, everything works correctly. I have ran a ethernet connection to the other end of my house, I moved the LAN router there and it does not connect to the other. I checked the line and then connected my laptop up to the connection and the internet came right up with being issued an IP under DHCP from the WAN router. Any ideas why the computer would connect and not the router from that end of the house?

You don't want to connect the input cable to the second router's WAN port. Just use one of the other ports. You will also want to disable the DHCP function on the second router. You may need to reboot both of the routers to get a connection.

Could you explain how this would fix the problem? I need DHCP to be enabled on both routers as the wireless functions serve as a connection for different assets within the house and those assets aren't always the same. So I can't just assign static IPs to devices I don't have here without MAC addresses. 1.2 is reserved for R2. If the devices work just perfectly in the same room, why would R2 not work on the other end of they house, connect the same way, just a longer ethernet cable? Would it be possible the ethernet cable is too long? it's about 200 ft. If it is too long, why would I get a connection with my laptop?
Modem -> Wireless Router (R1, LAN IP 1.1, Ch. 1) -> Wireless Router (R2, WAN IP 1.2, LAN IP 2.1, Ch. 7)

Cat 5 cable should be good for up to 294 feet.
