| 3 shine, on Mar 20, 2009 7:42:49 pm GMTHere is what I did to fix my problem with itunes registry settings missing and I couldnt burn cds.
. Make sure you have iTunes inslled (and if you uninstalled the GEAR driver reinstall it) Ok now go to the registry (start->run->regedit.exe) and look for "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}". Right click in the right section and select "New->Multi-String Value". Name it "UpperFilters". Right click on it and select "Modify" Enter "GEARAspiWDM" 9press enter to move to the next line and click ok) into the "Value Data". Restart and Voila it should be fixed. If not also try to make a "LowerFilters" and leave it blank.
I tried alot of other things but this worked, I have Windows xp
good luck Reply to shine | 4 ekb7, on Mar 21, 2009 8:01:58 pm GMTThanks for your help...it worked but now my cds/dvds don't show up on my computer at all so I guess I'm still out of luck. Reply to ekb7 |

I think you're a genius. The problem with itunes has been driving me up a wall for about a month.
I must have Googled fifteen different solutions to the problem. None worked. Yours did.
Thank you. Keep up the good work.

| 21 Jazz_e, on Nov 23, 2009 11:58:03 pm GMTSo I tried that.
Downloaded GEAR.
But as soon as i change the registry files as per instructed, the DVD drive goes missing again.
I had to delete the Úpper' and restart the computer to get my DVD/CD drive back.
Once the DVD/CD drive is back, we're back to the start.
I have Windows Vista though, and you have XP.
Just seems to be one big fat cycle that doesn't fix anything.
Any suggestions?

| 32 dancingpig, on Jan 8, 2010 4:49:41 am GMTITunes was working fine on my XP Dell. I couldn't read a data CD in my CDRW/DVD drive, even though same CD could be read and executed from in two other XP machines, a Dell and an HP (it was a software installation CD). Tech Support had me delete the upper and lower filters in the registry, after which iTunes could not burn a disk at all. Tried repairing, then uninstalling and reinstalling Gear drivers, uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes, cleaning out tons of temp files, all kinds of steps. Nothing worked until I tried Shine's fix!! How the heck did you figure this one out? Reply to dancingpig |
| 35 dwhewlings, on Jan 17, 2010 4:55:31 pm GMTI have Windows XP. My CD/DVD drive wouldn't read discs, so I got a Dell tech on the line. First thing he did was delete the UpperFilters and LowerFilters entries; I don't know why. Somewhere along the line, iTunes started and gave us the "missing registry settings" error message. In the end he agreed that the drive was kaput and sent me new hardware; he also suggested that I reinstall iTunes to fix the registry. I reinstalled iTunes several times but no luck (thanks a bunch Dell). Found Shine's fix and now all is fine. Thanks! Reply to dwhewlings |
