OK, you must take into consideration, HDMI is not a standard. Not all HDMI things have to play well with others.
Try to boot up th edevices with the conneciton in place. First the PC, then the projector. If that doesn't work , try the Projector then the pc. Make certain you video output is on your external HDMI in your PC or it will not send the signal out the HDMI port, it is still sedning it to the monitor.
Give it a go!
