Dell Inspiron 17r-5737 Screen Problems

Manufactured December 2013, received January 2014, this Dell laptop is already having problems with the screen. When I press the power button, the screen appears black but backlit, never showing the Dell logo. The keyboard is backlit as well. Then the screen turns completely black (no backlighting) for a few seconds, and returns to its backlit state for an indefinite amount of time. Occasionally, the screen will appear white on startup but will turn black with a tap to the back of the screen. I'm pretty disappointed that this laptop has crapped out after only a few months. I use it primarily for gaming and Skyping, and I keep Kaspersky anti-virus on it so there is little chance of a virus. Any suggestions/comments? Or should I just check out my warranty and/or get a new laptop?
