Hello Drew,
Sorry to say but this is a major issue which cannot be resolved on the net.
What you have described has once happened to me, the computer even started by itself during the night.
You may have had a power surge.
The issue resides with your power supply and also with your hard disk.
I strongly suggest you consult a hands-on technician.
Sorry but that's the way the cookie crumbles.
