My headphone jack wont work?

My headphone jack wont work on my Toshiba satellite windows 8 laptop? I know it isn't the headphones because they work on other devices. If I twist the headphones sound does come out but as soon as I let go the sound disappears. Also as soon as I put my headphone sin the sound stops so doesn't that mean the laptop knows there headphones in? Please help because this is extremely annoying!!

If you can get sounds when you twist the headphone cord it indicates a problem with the cord or the laptop jack. Most likely a physical problem inside the jack. Some people have reported damaging the laptop jack by using Apple headphones.
