Hello,

I work in the IS department at a company with about 20 other staff members. We have a mixed Windows 2000, Windows 2003 server network, with the staff using XP Pro on their local workstations.

One of our users is having issues with her desktop shortcut icons. She has quite a number of them & they are arranged in a very precise order.

For the past few months she's reported that during the course of a workday her display may suddenly "flash" and her desktop will change.

1st she thought that her shortcuts were being randomly re-arranged, but then she realized that they were just smaller after the flash and had been shifted closer to the sides & top of her display.

She says her screen usually flashes again and desktop icons will resume their former size but not location. Occasionally one or two shortcuts disappear and needs to be re-created. This happens several times a month, but not everyday.

No other staff member has reported an issue like this. Has anyone heard of this issue? Virus & Malwear scans come up clean, but I'm starting to suspect something she (alone) has loaded on her workstation is causing the issue.

Configuration: Windows XP
Internet Explorer 7.0

This is generally caused by the video momentarily resetting resolution. The highest cause of this is bad Computer power supply, Bad electrical source for computer, Bad Video Card, or corrupt video card driver

Thanks!

We started by replaced parts of the user's system (mouse, keyboard, monitor, etc) because she was complaining that they started acting "weird" just before each time she experienced a change in her display.

She was still having the issue till we asked her to remove any data from the local machine in preperation for replacing the workstation itself. Then we found that she had installed a screen saver the used and cycled through personal photos she uploaded to her hard drive. When she moved her photos her display seemed to stabilize so we uninstalled the screen saver application & she hasn't had the issue since.
