I've seen this problem come up many times before where people can't get their browsers to load pages, but I still feel the need to ask.

About two days ago, my house lost power, and ever since then, I'd be on Google Chrome, and all of a sudden it would no longer load web pages. I cleared my cache, and that didn't work, and I also installed Firefox for the sole purpose of testing to see if it was just Chrome, and FF did the same thing.

I'm using a laptop, but it's hardwired into my router via Ethernet cable. Skype still works, Steam's messaging system still works, but I also will no longer be able to connect to Steam's community or store pages. I'm using Windows 8 if that helps at all.

This isn't constant; restarting my computer is a temporary solution, but after a time, the browsers will stop loading pages again. I'm really afraid of trying some of the other solutions I've seen here, because if my history with these things is any indicator, I'll probably just mess up my computer even more than what it already is.

It may be worth noting that I can still browse the internet on my phone when this happens. If it happens again, I'm going to see if it happens on our home desktop as well.

Perhaps you need to restart the the broadband modem and/or the router. Sometimes after a power outage they get screwed-up.

Ok, if you cannot consume the bandwidth, then call your ISP and have them determine where the problem is. Their phone support should either determine the problem is the modem, or yours. Brown outs are sometimes worse than black outs, so do not be surprised if something is broken. Also, do not tell your ISP that you lost power, make them trouble shoot the issue, do not give them an easy way out. They will say it is your problem the second you say your lost power.

You pay for tech support, use it.

Here's the problem: It''s Comcast. They make you pay for help regardless, and my family is kind of in a tight spot right now. We can't really afford to pay for help.

The desktop does not have these problems, which makes me think it's a problem with the router.

You are paying for tech support. DO NOT dispatch out a tech.

What is your network location?

How do I know what my network location is?

Well, if the PC is at home, and you wish to share pictures or printers, or music, then select home. It will make changes to the firewall, and allow local traffic.

That... doesn't have anything to do with this.
