Hello,
Optical drives are generally plug and plug devices.
Have you installed the chipset drivers?
go to start and type device manager and open it up.
do you have anything with triangles next to them?
do you see a category for "Optical drives" ?
have you been inside your computer and accidentally disconnected it?
