My laptop shuts down all the time. It started to do it sometimes when I would be playing games, then it would happen when I would stream video for more than 10-15 minutes... Now it shuts down (well, the screen goes black, then after about 10 seconds the audio stops, then after about a minute the machine powers down) all the time.
Watching dvds
Running Virus scan
backing up my blackberry
installing programs

if i restart the machine right away and try to resume what i was doing, it usually shuts down pretty quick

if i wait a while, and just use firefox/itunes, nothing too serious... it usually doesn't shut down

only when i'm doing things like video watching (particularly streaming) or game playing

I ran avg and it told me that there is no threats.

I have no Idea what to do...

any takers....?

Configuration: Windows Vista
Firefox 3.0.6

Hi,
>this may be due to a driver incompatibility.
i suspect that it is your video card driver.
download the latest version of the driver and install it.
you may post the make and model of your computer and video card, we will give you the link where you can download the driver.
>it may also be due to overheating of your processor.
remove the power cable, open the cpu, remove the heatsink and clean it.
make sure you don't wipe off the paste which is found on the processor. it is in fact a thermal conductor.
>your power supply may also be the culprit, try another one to see if it works fine.

I am having the same issue, i cleaned the fans an dcleaned the heat sink and now it just shuts down no warning, i suspect that it is something deep because it has even happened before windows has had a chance to boot fully. . although rare. . .

usually it happens when i start typing or something intensive. . .

I have a gateway P series Laptop with Vista
