Hello,
Actually, Im not so sure how to describe the problem, but here goes. My laptop computer (on XP) freezes the moment it was suppose to get into the desktop (I type the log in password to get to Windows then as it tries to load up the desktop it freezes). So I have to go Task Manager (Ctrl-Alt-Delete) and click on run 'New Task', type 'explorer' and click 'enter' to get my computer working (this loads up my desktop and everything else) and it seems like my computer is fine. But I HAVE TO DO ALL THIS EVERYTIME I BOOT UP MY COMPUTER. What is wrong with my computer. How do I solve this???? And guess what, all this started days after I uploaded 'Norton Internet Security' into my laptop.

Configuration: Windows XP
Internet Explorer 8.0

Hi every body

well Christine,I think this is a problem in the register so try to do this

1- start >> run>> regedit
2-In the regedit GO TO

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>>
SOFTWARE>>
Microsoft>>
Windows>>
CurrentVersion>>
Policies>>
Explorer>>
Run

Press on the run and see if "explorer" (statement )is found in the field .If it is not found write it and save the new value you have written and close your registery.

Hi Prince, thanks for that. Problem is, I tried to get into the registry editing but it says 'registry editing has been disabled by your administrator'... what to do?

Hi Christine

First log on as usual to your PC then log off from your account (not shut down) then press Ctrl+Alt+Del
then input (administrator)in the user field do not write any thing in the password field then click ok
now you are loged on as administrator.

if this soultion does not work try to do it from the safe mood.

Hi Prince

So I was able to log in as administrator and went to the destination you specified. When I got to Explorer>> I couldn't see any 'run' to click on to. But in explorer>>, it says

ITEM TYPE DATA
Default REG_SZ Value not set

So I type 'explorer' in the data value, however, my desktop still won't load up, instead, the 'My Documents' folder would come up (after I do the 'Run new task' stuff, that is).

There is this 'run' folder inside the 'CurrentVersion' folder. The data value is also not set so I tried typing in 'explorer' in there as well but the same thing. Well actually, all 'Default' item in the registry has 'value not set' in it. I wonder if that's normal.

I hope this makes sense.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks again for your help.

Christine

Hi Christine

Do not worry we are in the beginning.
Well try to fix your system files and the register in this way
Log in to the system as you do in usual
- First input the Cd of the os (xp) in the CD Room or DVD
- Now follow the steps
- Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to view the task manager.
- Press new Task .
- Now write this in the field( sfc ' '/scannow)
Note :-

Instead of ( ' ' ) press space there is no another spaces
ok

if you do it correctly you will see a window that copy the files of the
system from the CD/DVD to your PC to fix the corrupted files.
