Hello,

I have problem, my Acer Travel Mate 4000 laptop, detects my cd/dvd rom as a usb removable device, and subsequently does not play/burn any cd's. it has full power, ie, it opens and closes, but does not read the cd.

any help on this?

i tried checking bios, and all seems fine there, there was no option to enable/disable cd rom.

under hardware profiles, cd rom is present, and device manager states cd rom drive working properly, and drivers are all installed.

Thnks for the help guys.

Configuration: Windows XP
Internet Explorer 7.0

Ok, i have tried the above, still not working.

after i uninstall, the "safely remove hardware" icon disappears from the task bar, and also the drive is not shown under my computers, as expected.

however when i reboot, the cd rom drive is back under removable hardware, and the icon to safely remove hardware re appears on the task bar.

any other ideas ?

please help, close to smashng the lap top into smithereens!!!

No i have not recieved a solution yet . . .

doesnt seem that there is any, i have settled on the ideat that the cd rom is probably broken or sumthng of that sort, and not software related.

have tried to open the laptop, but that became an impossible task with the 1000 and 1 screws, and some in awkward places, so gave up on it.

if you manage to find any other fixes, or things that i could try, let me know.
