Hello
No, do away with the wireless and use Ethernet only. It is far more reliable. wireless is unnecessary on a desktop. If you have a router there is need to have both wireless and cable. |
I'd get rid of the HUB and replace it with a switch, this is because a hub takes traffic from one PC and sends it out to everything else it is connected to, hence, if two computers send a message at the same time, they will collide and cause the computer or maybe even both to hang.
Yes computers can be connected to both a network and internet at the same time on wireless, my setup includes both wired and wireless, wireless connects through a port on the switch and into my netgear router and the wired PC's go into the same switch. This means that they are all physically connected and can be in the same network/ workgroup and the router provides internet access through a cable modem (if you use cable). A switch will not cause collisions because it works on level 2/3 of the OSI model (not something you need to know.) Basically it means that the messages sent over the network are read by the switch and sent only to the PC or router they are supposed to reach. This saves traffic and stops collisions as the switch also manages the timing of packets to avoid the collions! Even though they cost more, they are worth it and some routers such as the Netgear WPN824v2 even have a switch and wireless built into it. |
