Things are working well now. I have reinstalled the proper driver and connected the projector to the laptop. I turned on the projector and then the laptop and the laptop recognized the projector and I did not even need to use the function key.
Thanks for your help. The whole laptop is a marvel and works beautifully.
If I had to start over, I would keep XP Home edition and find patches for items that do not work well (laplink for example).
