Hello,
Try this 1
1) First make sure that the hard drive connection are firmly connected.
2) Go to BIOS once again and check if your hard drive is detected and follow the above instructions to set it as first boot device.

Hello,
Try this 1
Go to BIOS --> Load default settings --> Save the settings and exit from it.
Also make sure the firs boot device is set to Hard drive.
Now again go to BIOS and check if your hard drive is detected or not. If the BIOS failed to detect the hard drive then there is a problem with the hard drive.
If your hard drive is detected then some laptops comes with the HDD test in the BIOS. Go to BIOS, look for such option and check the hard drive status.
Good Luck

Hi thank you for your time and patience in trying to assist me, I believe that you are probably right and we have a hard drive problem which is beyond my capabilities also as the laptop is quite old it may now be beyond economic repair
