Hello,
I recently installed Windows 7 and i know it could be buggy etc but this just has me lost.
Since the install i had no sound (Realtek High Definition On Board Soundcard on a P5K SE).
Now i tried reinstalling drivers disabling things etc but nothing seemed to work. But one day i bumped the mute button on my screen and sound came out of it. Still the speakers fail to operate. My Viewsonic VA1912w can play sound from my realtek soundcard but my crummy new Logitech speakers no longer play. My soundcard driver is a Vista Service Pack 1 driver version 6.0.1.5783.

Can anyone help me out?

Thanks Muchly!

Configuration: Windows
Firefox 3.0.6

Your monitor, if it has built in speakers, probably just plays a built-in sound to indicate a button press, it's not coming from your computer. Alternatively, if you're using HDMI it could just be that your sound output is set to the HDMI connection and not your onboard sound. I've been having a problem in Ubuntu for instance where it tries to use my video card's HD sound by default, ignoring my Audigy. Check all of your hardware and sound options, make sure that your audio device is the onboard sound. Other options could be something simple like not being plugged into the right jack, not plugged in properly or something else that people tend to overlook because they just assume they did it right the first time.

I know this thread is a few months old, but I am having a similar problem.

OS: Vista SP2
AC'97 HD Audio Device on a Gigabyte motherboard

Sound was working yesterday when I played Lord of the Rings Online. Did not reboot (as normal) Sat down today to play a little and I had no sound from speakers, but did from the subwoofer. Checked all the Connections and re-seated them (while sound was playing (A youtube video)) and still no change. Rebooted and repeated steps. Same affect.
