Hello,

I no longer have XP but a good friend sent me this: "I have uninstalled (I think) Real Player by going to control panel and Add or Remove programs. I clicked on Real Player to uninstall and it is not on that list any more. But, as I got back to the start menu, the icon is still there. Then I got to All Programs and the icon is there also. I thought to delete it, but it says: this modification will affect all users who log on to this computer. It also said that this will only remove the icon but not the program.

I cannot duplicate the condition but it seems to me that the program should not appear on the Start List anymore or listed under All Programs.
Any suggestions?
Configuration: Windows XP
Internet Explorer 6.0

Hai

Well, it's difficult to say. It could be tha the program was uninstalled but that the shortcuts were missed. This can happen due to a few reasons, such as if the user moves the shortcuts after installation.

Do the shortcuts work - do they launch RealPlayer? If they do, then it is still installed. If not, check the target of the shortcuts to see where they point to and see if the installation folder still exists.

If the installation folder is gone, you should be fine to just delete the icons. The reason you get the messageabout "this will affect all users" is that the icons are in the "All Users" program group.

If you feel that the installation was not done correctly, the best course of action is usually to reinstall the program and then run the uninstallation again.
