CPU is overheating which in turn sets off a safety measure to not fry your CPU (Automatic shut-off). Sounds like it is about time to reapply the thermal paste / replace heatsink.

Hi. I also had an overheating problem (with a Pavilion ZE2000). Over time, the fans started to come on more and more often and faster and faster. Eventually the PC started to turn itself off, especially when running heavy processing applications.

After reading a few forums I took the laptop to pieces, dusted everything with cotton buds and vacuumed inside with a vacuum cleaner. All of that made... no difference at all. So, I went out and bought a tube of thermal paste (5 euros / 4 dollars). I took everything to pieces again, removed the fan assembly, put a dab of thermal paste on top of the processor and on top of the graphics chip and replaced the fan assembly. After re-assembling everything for the second time it was a changed machine.

Now I'm back to the machine I bought 2 years ago: most of the time the fan doesn't come on AT ALL!

I just wanted to share this experience since it was very low cost and extremely effective. Thermal paste can be found all over (computer stores, eBay etc). Buy a silicon, non-conducting paste to avoid short-circuits.

I have exactly the same problem like you with my NOTEBOOK HP PAVILION ZE2000.
I am going to try your solution.

thanks
